Tuition should not decide who gets to build
The fund is supported by tax-deductible donations and covers full tuition for students who could not otherwise enroll. Tell us who you are and what you want to build.
Who it is for
People rebuilding after disaster. People building for their own communities. Tradespeople retraining. Students from places where this knowledge is needed most and reaches last.
We are particularly interested in applicants who will carry the methods somewhere we are not — a rural county, a tribal housing program, a relief organization, a community trying to build its own way out of a housing shortage.
What an award covers
Two things. The online subscription, for anyone the $25 a month would keep out — ask and it is covered, and the foundation course is free to everyone regardless. And the part that actually keeps people out of a trade: the fee, travel and lodging for a campus immersion or a month-long field study, and tools where those are what stands in the way.
Say on your application which of those you need. Places are limited by how many people we can teach properly at once, not only by funding.
How it works
Applications are read as they arrive and answered by email. There is no deadline and no fee. We do not ask for tax returns or pay stubs; we ask you to tell us honestly what you are trying to do and why the money is the obstacle.
If we cannot fund you now we will say so plainly rather than leave you waiting, and you are welcome to apply again.

We use what you send only to consider your application and to write back. We do not share it.
Partner programs
If you run a workforce board, a tribal housing program, a relief agency or a community organization and want to put a group of people through the curriculum, get in touch directly. We can set up coupons, group enrollments and a cohort schedule, and we would rather do that than have ten people each apply separately.
