We’re excited to share some big news: Pangea Academy has officially partnered with the Town of Taos to lead the homebuyer qualification and lottery process for the Chamisa Verde Subdivision, a groundbreaking affordable and sustainable housing project right here in Taos.

On August 15th, we signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Town. This agreement entrusts Pangea Academy with making sure the process of selecting the first seven Chamisa Verde homeowners is transparent, fair, and community-centered.

What is Chamisa Verde?

Chamisa Verde is a visionary new subdivision in Taos that combines:

  • Permanent affordability: Homes are deed-restricted, ensuring they remain affordable for future generations.

  • Sustainable design: Built with regenerative building practices, these homes align with Taos’s values of environmental stewardship.

  • Community impact: Dedicated to serving local working families, especially essential workers and long-time residents.

Pangea Academy’s Role

As part of the agreement with the Town of Taos, Pangea Academy will:

  • Conduct outreach and education sessions to make sure Taoseños understand the opportunity and the eligibility requirements.

  • Manage the application intake and document verification process.

  • Administer a randomized, auditable lottery to select seven families.

  • Refer selected applicants to Centinel Bank for pre-qualification and financing support.

  • Provide transparent reporting to the Town throughout the process.

This is not just about processing paperwork, this is about ensuring that local families have a real pathway to sustainable homeownership.

Why This Matters

The housing crisis in Taos is real. Rising costs and limited supply have made it nearly impossible for many working families to own a home here. Chamisa Verde changes that by guaranteeing affordability and creating homes designed to serve local residents first.

For us at Pangea Academy, this project is about more than housing. It’s about community resilience, building homes that are both affordable and sustainable, rooted in the values of fairness, transparency, and long-term stewardship.
